Ever since I started suffering from sporadic bouts of alopecia since 2013, I’ve been trying out various natural haircare products but it has been difficult to find ones that suit me.
So when I was given the opportunity to try the haircare range from Purepotions, I jumped at the chance. I was especially excited because the core essence of the brand is based on creating natural and organic products. Their natural haircare range contains no perfumes, no parabens, no petrochemicals and no SLS (basically no detergents). Whenever I read what products don’t contain, it makes me aware of how many chemicals other products do contain…and usually that list is long. With Purepotions, you know what is in the products. They are transparent with what goes into their products and in simple terms, so you can actually understand what everything is.
Purepotions make their products using natural ingredients, such as organic cold pressed oils, herbal tinctures and essential oils. It’s 99.9% natural for goodness sake! It’s even suitable for babies from 6 months on.
By the time I got around to trying the shampoo and conditioner, my expectations were high.
The shampoo is bright orange in colour with a hint of herbal fragrance. The smell is subtle and fresh. It’s the essential oils (honeysuckle, sweet basil, clove and lemongrass) that give it the sweet citrus smell. They also act as a preservative too. It also contains a blend of herbal tinctures which includes nettle, calendula, chamomile and chickweed. It feels gentle on my hair and my scalp. After leaving it in my hair for a few minutes (as recommended) and after rinsing my hair felt squeaky clean. I literally did hear a squeak! I wasn’t really expecting that as it was so mild.
The conditioner instantly reminded me of chickpeas and oats due to the colour and consistency. It smelt natural and of herbs, I can’t quite explain it but it was a comforting smell of goodness and I liked it! It felt rich and nourishing on my hair. I didn’t feel itchy on the scalp, like I sometimes do with other products. Like the shampoo, it contains the same mix of herbs (nettle, calendula, chamomile and chickweed). But it also has the growth boosting amino acid argenine, hemp seed oil which hydrates and oatmeal that nourishes.
I was so pleased that the products were good as I expected them to be, I loved the results and that’s what sold it for me…and my other half and he’s super fussy!
My hair felt clean, soft and silky and it stayed that way. It didn’t suddenly lose its oomph between washes and my hair didn’t seem to get greasy. It was shinier and glossier than it has been before. I even had volume in my hair and I didn’t even have to use any styling products. It had a bounce that previously only a hairdryer could achieve. Basically I can’t stop touching my hair and I’ve even had compliments on how glossy it looks.
At £18 each for 200ml, it is pricier that the average shampoo and conditioner but it does feel high quality and the results really do speak for themselves.
